One of the very best bargains in Russia is the music. The Russians know their music and they love it. Itinerant musicians perform in parks and on the street and vocal groups give powerful if brief performances in churches and museums frequented by tourists. Many of the musicians offer their music on CD for sale. The technical quality of the recording is not always the best, but the music itself is delightful. We purchased several recordings - one a collection of classical music from a flautist playing in a remote corner of the park at Peterhof. When we play his music I relive the hauntingly beautiful experience of meeting him in that blissful moment of solitude before the crowds caught up with us.
