Silver Plume, Colorado, was incorporated in 1880 when huge amounts of silver were being extracted from some forty mines in the near vicinity. The town was composed of the men and women who worked the mines while the more well-to-do personages associated with the industry lived in upscale Georgetown just down the valley. At its peak, Silver Plume was a vital community of about two thousand souls and had its own newspaper, school, brewery, a very popular band and a railroad station. Silver Plume is located on Interstate Highway I-70 just a few miles east of Dillon and the Silver Plume railroad station features an operating steam engine.
