Georgetown - Fall

Georgetown is located on Interstate Highway 70 in the Rocky Mountains west of Denver. Georgetown was founded in 1859 by a group of prospectors that found a limited amount of gold in the nearby streams and hills. A few years later much greater amounts of silver was discovered in and around Georgetown and nearby Silver Plume. The Colorado Central Railroad ran a rail line to Georgetown and Silver Plume in 1877 and the area continued to produce huge amounts of silver through 1893. Georgetown became the home of many of the mine owners and more well to do merchants. Many of the fine old buildings have been preserved and both Georgetown and Silver Plume are worth a visit.
