A Trip to Australia and New Zealand
Wellington
Lambton Quay is a main commercial thoroughfare in the heart of Wellington. Brass plates set into the sidewalk announce that it was once the edge of the harbor. It was one of the first areas in all of New Zealand settled by the New Zealand Company. The street was named in honor of John Lambton, 1st Baron Durham, and the original chairman of the first New Zealand Company. The area is today known as the Golden Mile.
