A Trip to Australia and New Zealand

Backpackers are extremely well cared for in New Zealand. There is usually a good backpacker hotel very well located in most of the communities that we visited. The Waterloo Hotel below is but one example. Most of the folks that we saw along the way appeared to be young people and all of them had enormous loads. With the modern communications equipment available these days these folks are never really out of communication for very long. The scene above is typical - mobile phone and a pack that you would have to be very fit to lift - let alone carry any appreciable distance.
