Carson city is the capital of Nevada. The first Anglo European travelers to pass through this area were fur traders during the first half of the nineteenth century. In 1841 the Bidwell-Bartleson wagon train passed this way. With the discovery of gold in California in 1848 traffic picked up through the area and the Eagle Station trading post was established by Frank Hall, W.L. Hall, and George Jollenshee. In 1858 Abraham Curry purchased Eagle Station and set aside land for the future state capitol. In 1859 silver was discovered in the hills to the east in the Comstock Lode. Overnight Carson City became an important stop on the Pony Express, the Butterfield stage and the Wells Fargo express. In 1861 Carson City became the capital of the Nevada Territory. Nevada was granted statehood on October 31, 1864, with Carson City as the state capital.
