This hike is one of the very finest for great morning views of Lake Tahoe. Best to ask the Visitor's Center for advice as to where to park for this one. The trailhead is on the edge of Incline Village, near the Ponderosa Ranch, but watch out, if you park in the wrong place you could get towed. Within the first easy half mile you are into Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and looking south and west down on the lake through beautiful ponderosa pine forest. If you decide to continue on up the mountain another two and a half miles you will come across the site of the tunnel flume that was constructed in the nineteenth century to provide water and lumber to Virginia City during the hey-day of the silver boom. At that point you've done most of the climbing and you can continue on to Marlette Lake and Spooner Summit if you wish, but it will be a very long day unless you have a mountain bike or two cars. Tunnel Creek to Spooner Summit is about thirteen miles one way.
