Canyonlands National Park - Horsehoe Canyon - Late Summer |
||||
Horseshoe Canyon is located in a relatively small portion of Canyonlands National Park separated from the larger part of the park south of the town of Green River and west of the main part of the park on the west side of the Colorado River. The trailhead for the trail into Horseshoe Canyon is accessed by one of two dirt roads. The first originating in the town of Green River (47 miles) and the second (30 miles) turning off from Utah Highway 24. Within Horseshoe Canyon there are three rock art sites considered by many to be some of the most dramatic in the entire country. The trail into the pictograph sites within Horseshoe Canyon is about seven miles round trip with a 750 foot elevation change. Relatively few people visit Horseshoe Canyon because it is off of the beaten track. If you are interested in rock art, Horseshoe Canyon is very highly recommended. |
