A Trip to Australia and New Zealand
Sydney - Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo has a collection of over 2600 animals and is considered to be one of the largest zoological parks in the world. We were primarily interested in the wildlife that is endemic to Australasia so we did not spend a lot of time looking at North American or African animals, but they have an excellent collection of them as well. The facilities are clean - both for the visitors and for the animals and as far as we could see the animals appeared to be content with their existence. (I hate to see anything held in captivity.) We spent virtually the entire day at Taronga and succeeded in seeing all of the animals that we had hoped to find - it was a very impressive day. We took the ferry from Circle Quay to Taronga Wharf and then got on the city bus for the short ride up the hill to the entrance. Very convenient.
