Grimes Point, just outside of Fallon, Nevada, is the site of a large collection of petroglyphs. Some 150 boulders are covered with magical inscriptions that are believed to date back to between 5000 BC and 1500 AD. Evidence of a drift fence has been found in the area. It is believed that early peoples used the fence in their hunt and made the petroglyphs to ensure their success. Only the rocks with "desert varnish" like the one at the bottom of this page have the markings. There are two types of design: pecked images and groups of shallow indulations.
