Hovenweep National Monument |
|||
Hovenweep National Monument is located in the extreme southeastern corner of Utah. It is one of the premier Native American sites in the Four Corners Region. Traces of human habitation in the general area have been dated back more than a milenium, but the stone ruins that we see today at Hovenweep were begun in about 700 A.D. and were occupied by Ancestral Puebloan People until about 1300 A.D. The more elaborate of the structures were constructed during the later years of the site's occupation. A visit to Hovenweep can easily be combined with a visit to Mesa Verde and should definitely be included in your itinerary when you visit the Four Corners Region. |
