The fountains in the gardens at Peterhof were designed and constructed to function without the aid of pumps. They depend instead on water stored at an elevation sufficiently high to provide the necessary pressure to activate the fountains. The water for the central Samson Fountain with the highest of the jets is connected to a source four kilometers away. |
