Although the exterior is not as ornate and the building is not as large as the various royal palaces that we visited, the main rooms of the Yusupov palace are the equal in splendor of those in the houses of the Romanov. It is not surprising that they have some obvious similarities in style and decoration in as much as the Yusupovs played such an important role in the westernization of Russian culture during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. |
