Felix Yusupov was born in 1887 and as he grew up was regarded to be something of a dilettante by the family, but he managed to court and wed Princess Irina of the royal family. Following his involvement in the murder of Rasputin in 1916 he was exiled to one of the Yusupov country estates in Kursk Province. Following the 1917 Revolution he evaded the Red Army for several years, but in 1919 departed Russia for exile in Italy. In 1991 Xenia Yusupov, Felix's great granddaughter, visited Russia and, at her request in 2000, was awarded Russian citizenship by order of then President Vladimir Putin.
