A Trip to Russia - St. Petersburg - Yusupov Palace - Spring

Grigory Rasputin was born in Siberia of peasant stock, but proclaimed himself to be a holy monk possessed of supernatural powers. In the early twentieth century he became a friend of Czar Nicholas II and his supposed influence with the Czar was regarded by some as being a threat to the stability of Russia. The exact facts of his death are shrouded in mystery, but it is known that a group of nobles led by Prince Felix Yusupov assassinated him one evening in mid-December 1916. The museum has used wax figures to represent the events of his murder and the guides spell out all of the various known facts related to the affair along with a plethora of rumors. Apparently the deed was done with cyanide in the cookies. The wax figures were interesting, but the photographs and Felix's desk were more interesting.
