A Trip to Russia - Around St. Petersburg by Bus and Foot - Spring |
||||
Two Egyptian sphinxes made of pink granite lead down to the Neva River in front of the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. They were discovered in ancient Thebes and were brought to the city in 1832. The personification of an Egyptian pharaoh dead for three and a half millennia, they are a favorite backdrop for young Russian visitors to the city to take an "I was there" snap shot. |
